Which is the role of the ecotoxicological assessment in the HIA?

The ecotoxicological assessment supports the HIA integrating the state of the art for the knowledge of the environmental state affected by the enterprise, with the aim to protect human health.This assessment is relevant to detect potential negative impacts that are not foreseen and can derive from exposure to mixtures and emerging contaminants not included in the legislation, to prevent negative trends, to adopt rapidly the measures and to verify the actions that have been carried out.
The ecotoxicological assessment therefore is an early warning system for the whole procedure and the monitoring should be carried out until the enterprise is active with the possibility to change the frequency on the basis of the obtained results.
