Violence against women is a global phenomenon that crosses cultural, social, and geographic boundaries. According to the World Health Organization, gender-based violence is a serious public health issue and one of the leading risk factors for illness and premature death among women and girls worldwide.

Some key figures:

· An analysis of data collected between 2000 and 2018 across 161 countries found that 30% of women experienced physical and/or sexual violence. More recent data confirm this trend, showing that 35% of women globally have suffered physical or sexual violence.

· This phenomenon persists in our country across all social strata. In Italy, data from the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat) indicate that 31.5% of women aged 16 to 70 have experienced some form of physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime.
