Fertility preservation

It is necessary to inform patients, in cases of diseases and treatments they may be facing, of possible harm to their future fertility and the possibilities to preserve it.

Cryopreservation of reproductive tissues is an option for adult women (oocytes, embryos and ovarian tissue) and for adult men (seminal fluid and testicular tissue). For prepubescent girls and boys, cryopreservation is possible for ovarian tissue and testicular tissue, respectively.

The Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS, the National Institute of Health in Italy) organizes training courses for health workers to spread the culture of preserving fertility.
