The existing attendance system of the severe traumatic brain injured patient with prolonged coma consists of a fragmentation of the several intervention phases, from the acute phase, to the rehabilitation time, until the final family reintegration. Nowadays the real social reintegration phase is practically lacking. This kind of system causes a great waste of economic resources during the different phases, because of the lack of a real connection between the several intervention areas' operators, with the final consequence of an unsatisfactory social reintegration even when the patient is potentially able to be reintegrated. The aim of this protocol is to give a synthesis of the diagnostic and prognostic elements in the several treatment phases, and a proposal about the fundamental therapeutic interventions, systematized on a continuum that looks after the patient from the Intensive Care Unit until his/her returning home. This proposal could be a useful aid for the patients and a more accredited synthesis about the issue for each operator.
