The study of global high impact diseases is carried on through the use of different research tools which include clinical studies and surveillance in Italy and abroad for the definition of safe and effective therapeutic and preventive strategies; studies aimed at identifying the best diagnostic and therapeutic protocols; monitoring and optimization studies of therapeutic adherence to recommended treatments or protocols; laboratory studies on biological factors of predisposition and protection from diseases; cohort studies on the natural history of the disease and on the determinants of disease and mortality; studies aimed at the development of innovative drugs, new therapeutic and vaccination strategies.
