Back Press Release No. 65/2022 - COVID-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

These are the main data provided by the Control Room:

  • There was a nationwide increase in the weekly incidence of cases: 215 per 100.000 inhabitants (16/09/2022 - 22/09/2022) vs. 186 per 100.000 inhabitants (09/09/2022 - 15/09/2022).
  • In the period 31 August – 13 September 2022. the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 091 (range 0.85-1.06), stable compared to the previous week. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases increased slightly but remained below the epidemic threshold: Rt = 0.87 (0.82-0.91) as at 13/09/2022 vs. Rt = 0.81 (0.77-0.85) as at 06/09/2022.
  • The number of occupied beds in Intensive Care Units remained stable at 1.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 22 September) vs. 1.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 15 September). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level dropped to 5.3% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 22 September) vs. 5.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 15 September).
  • Two Regions were classified as being at high risk, in pursuance of the MD of 30 April 2020, eleven were classified as being at moderate risk while the remaining eight Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at low risk. Twelve Regions/PPAAs reported at least one resilience alert. Three Regions reported multiple resilience alerts.
  • The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing was stable compared to the previous week (11% vs. 11%). There was a slight increase in the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms (53% vs. 51%), whereas there was a slight decrease in the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities (36% vs. 37%)
