Welcome to the official website of the European Union Reference Laboratory for Parasites (EURLP), hosted by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS). The ISS has been designated as Reference Laboratory for Parasites by the European Commission on July the 1st, 2006 (Commission Regulation 776/2006)
The main mission of the EURLP is to support the National Reference Laboratories (NRLs) of the EU member states in the field of foodborne parasites. This is accomplished through the development, validation and accreditation of analytical methods, the organization of proficiency testing and training courses, the provision of reference material and the dissemination of scientific information.
The EURLP functions are managed by the Unit of Foodborne and Neglected Parasites, which belongs to the Department of Infectious Diseases of the ISS. The Unit has been accredited since July 2006 by ACCREDIA, the Italian accreditation body, according to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 international standard. The accreditation (laboratory ID, 0689) refers to fixed and flexible scope of accreditation and certifies the technical competence of the laboratory to perform specific analytical methods. On May 2014, the Unit was also accredited by ACCREDIA as Proficiency Testing Provider (PTP), in conformity with the ISO/IEC 17043:2010 international standard (laboratory ID, 0005).
