Back September 2024 – World Patient Day

The World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) on 17 September 2024, is a campaign for all stakeholders in the health care system to work together and share engagement to improve patient safety.
World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the critical nature of patient safety and observes World Patient Safety Day every year. This day serves as a global platform to discuss, strategize, and drive initiatives that place patient safety at the core of healthcare systems worldwide.

The theme of this year’s event is Improving diagnosis for patient safety. An accurate diagnosis is crucial to determine the correct treatment, enables early detection of diseases, helps to use resources more efficiently.  Diagnostic errors (incorrect diagnosis, delayed diagnosis or missed diagnosis) can happen at every stage of the medical process and can happen in all healthcare settings.
Through the slogan Get it right, make it safe, the WHO is calling for concerted efforts to significantly reduce diagnostic errors through a variety of interventions rooted in systems thinking, human factors and actively engaging patients, their families and health workers.
