WHO CC for Cystic and Alveolar Echinococcosis

Since April 20, 2016, the Food and NeglectEd Parasitosis Unit of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) has been designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a WHO Collaboration Centre for the Epidemiology, Identification and Control of Cystic and Alveolar Echinococcosis; ITA-107" (WHO Collaborating Centre for the Epidemiology, Detection and Control of Cystic and Alveolar Echinococcosis).

The Centre aims to provide technical input and expertise on the control of cystic and alveolar echinococcosis in both humans and animal species, through multicenter studies on clinical and molecular epidemiology and on the identification and evaluation of the burden of these neglected and orphan diseases.

It is also restructuring, maintaining and expanding the International Register of Cystic Echinococcosis (IRCE) clinical, international, prospective and observational registry on cystic echinococcosis in humans and animals.
