Could intersex be a gender identity?

Back Could intersex be a gender identity?
The term gender identity refers to the intimate and profound sense of belonging to a gender, whether male, female, or other. Gender identity may or may not correspond to the sex assigned at birth or to the person's primary or secondary sexual characteristics. The term intersex, on the other hand, refers to all those innate variations (since birth) of sex characteristics outside the typical notions of what are considered male or female bodies.
The misuse of the term intersex to refer to a person’s gender identity can negatively impact communication
