Compared with the general population, an increased risk of gonadal cancer has been documented for some Variations of Sex Characteristics (VSCs)/Differences of Sex Development (DSDs). Based on the scientific data currently available, the medical recommendation is to avoid removing gonads solely because of the risk of developing tumours, and to schedule regular check-ups instead.
