Is it better to undergo early surgery?

Back Is it better to undergo early surgery?
The international scientific literature reports cases of adults with Variations of Sex Characteristics (VSCs)/Differences of Sex Development (DSDs) who have experienced physical and mental health problems following early interventions. Some early surgeries can actually cause aesthetic, urinary and sexual complications with negative consequences in adulthood. Moreover, some intersex persons may have negative experiences following gonadal removal although, in this case, the risk of malignancies of any kind needs to be carefully considered, depending on the specific VSC/DSD. To date, there is no unanimous consensus among VSC/DSD professionals regarding the best time to perform any type of non-urgent surgery. However, in line with international recommendations, it is better to respect the person’s rights and postpone surgery until they can actively participate in the decision-making process
