Intersexioni is an intersectional collective founded in 2013, primarily focused on the rights of intersex people (or individuals with variations in sex characteristics, VSC).
We also advocate for the rights of individuals facing discrimination based on gender identity, sexual/romantic orientation, gender, and ethnicity.
We established the first support center in Italy for individuals with any type of intersex variation, as well as for their families, friends, and allies. We provide initial support through online and telephone information and contact services.
In 2017, we launched the first support center for deaf individuals. We also offer a listening and mutual support service for trans and non-binary people.
Since 2020, we have had an intersex youth group active at local, national, and international levels.
We organize meetings and provide training both in academic settings and in more general outreach contexts, including schools, universities, healthcare professionals, practitioners, volunteers, and the wider public.
In 2017, we initiated Italy’s first Intersex Relay, aimed at raising awareness and building networks among intersex individuals and allies. Since then, the relay has taken place annually during Onda Pride in various cities.
As an anti-speciesist collective, we also address the interconnection between forms of oppression affecting both humans and non-human animals.
While we were originally founded in Florence, we are active in several Italian cities and abroad. Currently, we are primarily based in Florence, Como, Rome, and Brussels.
